Chimney Sweep & Repair, Los Angeles CA

A chimney is a working system, not a hole in the roof

Most homeowners only think about their chimney on the first cold night of the year, when the damper is stuck, the flue smells like a campfire, or smoke starts drifting back into the living room instead of up the flue. By then, the buildup of creosote, the cracked flue tile, or the loosened chimney cap has usually been quietly getting worse for a season or two. Royal Flue Chimney Expert exists to catch that decline early, in the neighborhoods across Los Angeles where century-old brick chimneys, mid-century masonry, and newer prefabricated metal flue systems all share the same block.

We are a full-service chimney sweep and chimney repair company serving the greater Los Angeles area, including Highland Park, Eagle Rock, Glassell Park, Mount Washington, Silver Lake, Los Feliz, Pasadena, Burbank, Glendale, and the surrounding San Gabriel Valley communities. Our technicians carry out chimney sweeping, Level 1–3 inspections, masonry and tuckpointing repair, chimney relining, cap and crown replacement, damper service, dryer vent cleaning, and waterproofing — and we're available around the clock for emergency chimney service when a storm, a fire, or sudden structural movement turns a maintenance issue into a safety issue.

Southern California's chimneys face a specific mix of stresses that chimney companies in other regions rarely deal with: seismic activity that can crack mortar joints and shift crowns, long dry seasons that bake masonry and then get hit with sudden heavy winter rain, and a huge range of home ages, from 1920s Spanish Revival fireplaces to brand-new prefabricated units in Los Angeles's newest infill construction. We built our inspection and repair process around that reality, not around a one-size-fits-all national checklist.

Home / About

Built by chimney people, for Los Angeles homes

The story behind Royal Flue Chimney Expert, how we train our crews, and why we treat every flue like it's venting our own fireplace.

Our Story

Started with a single ladder and a lot of soot

Royal Flue Chimney Expert began the way a lot of good trade businesses do: with a technician who was tired of seeing other companies cut corners on chimney work that homeowners couldn't easily check themselves. Chimneys are out of sight for most of the year, tucked above the roofline, so it's easy for a rushed inspection or a half-finished repair to go unnoticed until the next time a fire is lit.

We set out to build a company where the inspection actually gets documented, the estimate actually matches the work, and the crew that shows up actually treats your home like it's the one they have to explain to a customer at the end of the day. Over the years, that approach turned a one-truck operation into a full chimney sweep and repair company serving homes across Los Angeles — from the brick chimneys of 1920s Spanish Revival houses in Highland Park to newly built homes in the San Gabriel Valley with prefabricated metal flue systems.

Today, Royal Flue Chimney Expert handles everything from a routine annual sweep to full masonry reconstruction after seismic damage, and we still run a 24/7 emergency line because chimney problems don't wait for business hours.

What Drives Us

Our mission and the values behind every visit

Chimney work touches fire safety, indoor air quality, and the structural integrity of your home. We take that responsibility seriously on every single appointment.

Safety first

Every recommendation we make traces back to fire safety, carbon monoxide risk, or structural integrity — not just cosmetics.

Honest assessments

If a chimney doesn't need work, we tell you that too. Long-term trust matters more to us than a single invoice.

Respect for your home

Drop cloths, shoe covers, and full cleanup on every job, whether it's a 45-minute sweep or a week-long masonry rebuild.

Craft, not shortcuts

Masonry and relining work is done to match code and to last through the next decade of Los Angeles weather and seismic activity.

Licensing & Training

Certified, insured, and continuously trained

Chimney safety standards evolve, and so does our training. Every technician on our team works within the framework set by national chimney safety and fire-prevention standards, and we invest in ongoing education rather than treating a first certification as the finish line.

  • Fully licensed and insured chimney contractor operating in California
  • Technicians trained to CSIA-aligned sweeping and inspection standards
  • NFPA 211 fire-code awareness built into every inspection checklist
  • Ongoing safety and equipment training for every technician on the team

Why It Matters

What an untended chimney can actually cost you

Creosote & chimney fires

Creosote is a flammable byproduct of burning wood that builds up inside the flue. Left unchecked, it can ignite inside the chimney, sometimes without any visible warning until the fire is already burning hot enough to crack a flue liner.

Carbon monoxide risk

A blocked or damaged flue can force combustion gases back into the home rather than venting them outside, which is one of the most common causes of carbon monoxide exposure tied to home heating appliances.

Water damage & structural decay

A cracked crown or missing cap lets rain into the chimney system, where it erodes mortar joints, rusts dampers, and can eventually spread water damage into the surrounding roof and attic framing.

Home / Services

Chimney sweeping, inspection, and repair services

Every service below starts with a real inspection. Scroll through, or call us and we'll help you figure out exactly what your chimney needs.

Chimney Sweeping & Cleaning

Creosote and soot buildup is the leading cause of chimney fires, and it accumulates in a working fireplace every burning season, even with clean-burning, well-seasoned wood. Our sweeping service clears the flue, smoke chamber, and firebox using rotary brushes sized to your specific flue, paired with HEPA-filtered vacuum equipment so soot doesn't end up settling on your furniture instead of leaving the house.

We sweep wood-burning fireplaces, wood stoves, pellet stoves, and gas fireplace venting, and we always finish with a visual check of the swept flue so you can see the result before we pack up.

WHAT'S INCLUDED

  • Full flue, smoke chamber & firebox cleaning
  • HEPA vacuum containment, drop cloths inside
  • Creosote glaze assessment & photos
  • Post-sweep visual walkthrough

Chimney Inspections (Level 1, 2 & 3)

Inspections are the foundation of everything else we do. A Level 1 inspection covers the readily accessible parts of the chimney for a system with no known issues. A Level 2 inspection adds a camera scan of the flue interior and is recommended after a change in fuel type, an appliance swap, a chimney fire, a home sale, or storm and seismic damage. A Level 3 inspection may involve removing sections of the chimney or surrounding structure when a serious hazard is suspected and can't be evaluated otherwise.

We document every inspection with photos and, where relevant, video from the internal camera scan, so you have a clear record of the chimney's condition — useful for your own records, for insurance, or for a home sale.

WHAT'S INCLUDED

  • Exterior masonry, cap & crown check
  • Interior camera scan of the flue liner
  • Damper & firebox condition report
  • Written report with photos, for your records

Masonry & Brick Repair

Los Angeles masonry chimneys deal with a combination that's tough on mortar: intense summer heat, occasional heavy rain, and seismic movement that other regions rarely factor into chimney maintenance. We repair spalled brick, repoint eroded mortar joints, rebuild leaning or separated chimney stacks, and reinforce masonry to current seismic bracing standards where needed.

We match existing brick color and mortar profile wherever possible, so a repointed section blends with the rest of the chimney instead of standing out as an obvious patch.

WHAT'S INCLUDED

  • Tuckpointing & mortar joint repair
  • Spalled or cracked brick replacement
  • Leaning stack & seismic bracing repair
  • Color and profile-matched brick & mortar

Chimney Relining

A damaged or undersized flue liner is one of the most common reasons a chimney fails inspection, and it's not something to leave alone — a cracked liner lets heat and combustion gases reach combustible materials in the surrounding chase. We install stainless-steel flexible and rigid liners for wood and gas appliances, and cast-in-place liners for chimneys that need structural reinforcement along with a new liner.

Relining is sized to the specific appliance connected to the flue, since an oversized or undersized liner can cause poor draft and inefficient burning even when the rest of the chimney is in good shape.

WHAT'S INCLUDED

  • Stainless-steel flexible & rigid liners
  • Cast-in-place structural relining
  • Correct flue sizing for your appliance
  • Post-install camera verification

Chimney Cap, Crown & Damper Repair

The chimney cap and crown are the roofline's first line of defense against rain, embers, and animals, and they take the brunt of Los Angeles's sun and occasional heavy winter storms. We install stainless-steel and copper caps with spark arrestor mesh, resurface and rebuild cracked crowns, and repair or replace worn dampers that no longer seal properly when the fireplace isn't in use.

A missing or damaged cap is one of the most common — and least expensive to fix — causes of water intrusion and animal entry we find during inspections.

WHAT'S INCLUDED

  • Stainless-steel & copper cap installation
  • Crown crack repair & resurfacing
  • Top-sealing & throat damper replacement
  • Spark arrestor mesh & animal-guard fitting

Fireplace Repair & Restoration

Firebox brick, refractory panels, and smoke chambers take direct heat exposure every time a fire is lit, and they can crack or crumble over years of use. We repair and rebuild fireboxes, replace refractory panels, and restore older fireplaces — including historic homes where the original masonry needs careful, code-compliant restoration rather than a full replacement.

For gas fireplace inserts and log sets, we also inspect and service the venting connection to make sure it's still matched correctly to the unit.

WHAT'S INCLUDED

  • Firebox brick & refractory panel repair
  • Smoke chamber parging & smoothing
  • Historic fireplace restoration
  • Gas insert & log set venting checks

Dryer Vent Cleaning

Clogged dryer vents are a leading cause of house fires and a common source of longer drying times and higher energy bills. We clean out lint buildup along the full duct run, not just the accessible end near the machine, and check the exterior vent hood to make sure it opens and closes properly.

This service pairs well with an annual chimney sweep — both are quick, both address a real fire risk, and both are easy to forget until something goes wrong.

WHAT'S INCLUDED

  • Full-length duct lint removal
  • Exterior vent hood inspection
  • Airflow test before & after

Chimney Waterproofing

Brick and mortar are porous, and repeated wet-dry cycles gradually break masonry down from the inside — a process that speeds up in Los Angeles's pattern of long dry spells followed by sudden heavy rain. We apply vapor-permeable waterproofing sealant that keeps rain out while still letting the masonry breathe, which prevents the trapped-moisture damage that non-breathable sealants can cause.

Waterproofing is most effective as a preventive step after masonry repairs, or on a chimney that's structurally sound but starting to show efflorescence (the white, chalky mineral deposits left behind by water moving through brick).

WHAT'S INCLUDED

  • Vapor-permeable masonry sealant
  • Efflorescence treatment
  • Multi-year water-repellent coverage

24/7 Emergency Chimney Service

Chimney fires, sudden storm damage, and structural shifts after an earthquake don't happen on a convenient schedule. Our emergency line is staffed around the clock, every day of the year, and dispatches a technician for urgent situations like active chimney fires (after the fire department has cleared the scene), sudden interior leaks, or masonry that's visibly shifted or cracked.

If you smell smoke without an active fire, hear a roaring or crackling sound from the flue, or notice a chimney leaning or a large crack has appeared, stop using the fireplace and call us right away.

WHAT'S INCLUDED

  • 24/7/365 emergency dispatch
  • Post-fire damage assessment
  • Emergency tarping & temporary capping
  • Follow-up repair scheduling
